Am I Suitable for Kyokushin Karate?

When can I get a black belt?

There are many black belt factories in Malaysia. Kyokushin Karate Malaysia is NOT one of them. If you are signing up because your PRIMARY AIM is to get a black belt, we advise  you to look elsewhere.

We don’t have a timeline on when you can achieve your black belt. It depends solely on you and how much effort you are willing to put to improving yourself.

Learning karate is about the journey, not the destination.

I’ve got a black belt in other martial art. Can I maintain my rank ? Can you fast track me?

No.

Is this karate in the Olympics?

No. Do you qualify for the Olympics?

How is Kyokushin karate different from other styles of Karate?

We fight full contact. Adults don’t wear vests or gloves or guards when they fight.
Children do.
Our tournaments are won based on knockdown. Other karate are point based with controlled strikes.

How is Kyokushin karate different from Taekwondo?

We teach a balance of hand and leg techniques, including high kicks. Taekwondo focuses more on fancy kicks.

Will I get injured?

There are no guarantees. Rest assured, our instructors are very experienced and take all the necessary safety precautions during class.

I am 50 years old, is it too late to learn? I have a preexisting injury, can I learn?

If you can climb the flight of stairs up to the dojo, you can learn. We recognize that everyone is unique and we push you to YOUR limits, not others.

All we ask is that you declare any medical/pre-existing condition before you register.

My child is 3 years old, can he/she learn?

It depends. If he/she can:

  • enter the dojo on their own
  • differentiate left and right
  • able to understand and follow simple English/Malay/Chinese/Japanese (we apologize, we are brushing up on our Tamil)

Please bring him/her to a TRIAL class for assessment by our instructors
